Balaghat, India – Three women Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district on Wednesday, police officials said. The operation was carried out by the state’s anti-Maoist Hawk Force in coordination with local police near the Chhattisgarh border.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Dabar, the gunfight erupted in a forested area near Ronda Forest Camp in the Supkhar Forest Range, under Garhi Police Station limits, approximately 90 kilometers from the district headquarters. “The operation was conducted in the morning, and further details are being collected,” Dabar told PTI.
A police statement confirmed that three "hardcore Maoists" were neutralized during the encounter. Security forces recovered an INSAS rifle, a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), and a .303 rifle from the site, along with essential daily-use items.
Officials believe that several other Maoists were injured in the exchange of fire but managed to flee. In response, twelve police teams have launched a combing operation in the dense forest to track down the remaining insurgents.
Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district, which shares borders with Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, has witnessed Maoist activities in the past. Security forces have intensified anti-Naxal operations in the region to curb their movement and influence.
Authorities are continuing investigations to identify the deceased Maoists and assess the impact of the operation on insurgent activities in the area.
