Buldhana, Maharashtra, July 18 - Approximately ten people sustained minor injuries on Thursday evening when stone pelting erupted on Muharram procession in Maharashtra's Buldhana district, Sakharkherda village according to local officials.
The incident occurred around 6:30 to 7 PM in the Malipurya area of Sakharkherda village as the procession, which had commenced at Gujri Chowk, was en route to the Garib Shah Baba dargah.
"The situation escalated in Malipurya area, resulting in stone pelting on Muharram," a police official stated. "About ten individuals suffered minor injuries in the clash."
Law enforcement responded swiftly to quell the disturbance. "Police had to use tear gas to disperse the mob," the official added. "The situation is now under control."
A significant police contingent, led by Additional Superintendent of Police B.B Mahamuni, has been deployed to the area to maintain order and prevent further outbreaks of violence.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the clash and monitoring the situation closely to ensure peace is maintained during the remainder of the Muharram observances.
