New Dehli - FIFA, the world football governing body, has postponed its decision on whether to suspend the Israel Football Association (IFA) from international competition. The delay comes after both the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) and the IFA requested more time to submit their positions.
Initially, an independent legal assessment of the PFA's case against the IFA was due to be provided to FIFA's council by July 20. However, FIFA stated on social media that "more time is needed to conclude this process with due care and completeness."
The PFA has called for Israel's suspension from FIFA, citing concerns over the war in Gaza and the occupation of Palestinian territories. This issue was discussed at FIFA's annual congress in Bangkok in May, where it was decided that a special council meeting would be held within two months to determine Israel's status.
The decision will now be made after the Paris Olympics, scheduled from July 26 to August 11. Israel has qualified for the men's football tournament, with group matches beginning on July 24. They are set to play Mali, Paraguay, and Japan in the group phase.
This delay extends the period of uncertainty regarding Israel's participation in international football competitions.
