Mumbai - A 60-year-old Kerala man, Ali Khan C.K., died on June 24 following injuries sustained when an upper berth fell on him while traveling on the Ernakulam-Hazrat Nizamuddin Millennium Superfast Express. The incident occurred on June 16 as the train passed through Warangal district, Telangana.

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the accident was caused by improper chaining of the upper berth by another passenger. The victim, who was in the lower berth, suffered neck injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ramagundam before being transferred to Hyderabad, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Ministry of Railways stated on social media that the upper berth fell due to "improper placement of the chain" by a passenger, not because of damage to the seat itself. They emphasized that the seat was inspected at Nizamuddin station and found to be in proper condition.

The GRP has registered a case and is investigating the incident.

This tragic event raises questions about passenger safety and the proper use of train berth equipment. It also highlights the importance of following correct procedures when securing upper berths in train compartments.
