Vancouver, Canada - A tragic shooting claimed the life of 24-year-old Chirag Antil in the neighborhood of South Vancouver on Thursday night. The Vancouver Police Department responded to reports of gunshots around 11 p.m. near the intersection of East 55th Avenue and Main Street.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered Antil deceased inside a vehicle. No arrests have been made yet, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
Antil, an Indian student who recently completed his MBA at University Canada West, had only been residing in Vancouver since September 2022. He had just obtained his work permit prior to the incident.
Chirag's brother, Ronit Antil, revealed that the two had spoken that morning and Chirag seemed happy. Later that day, Chirag drove his Audi away from home, ultimately leading to the deadly encounter.
The Congress party's student wing, the National Students' Union of India, has urged the Ministry of External Affairs to closely monitor the case's progress and ensure justice is served swiftly. They have also requested assistance and support for Chirag's family during this difficult time.
Chirag's relatives have launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover the costs of repatriating his remains to India. Romit Antil fondly remembered his brother as an exceptionally kind and polite individual who never sought trouble with anyone.
The Vancouver Police Department continues to appeal for any information from the public that could aid their ongoing investigation into Chirag Antil's tragic death.
