New Dehli- IPL 2024, The afternoon match of the IPL saw an exciting finish, with the Punjab Kings edging out the Delhi Capitals by just 3 wickets. Batting first, Punjab Kings set a target of 178 runs, with a crucial knock of 64 runs from Liam Livingstone. In reply, the Delhi Capitals fought hard, but fell short by 4 runs in the final over. Sam Curran, with his all-around performance of 3 wickets and 32 runs, was declared the Player of the Match.

Meanwhile, the evening match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad is currently underway. Kolkata Knight Riders posted a strong total of 208 runs on the board, with a brilliant innings of 87 runs from Nitish Rana. Sunrisers Hyderabad are currently batting, needing 144 runs to win with 14 overs remaining.

Punjab Kings Claw Their Way to Victory in a Nail-Biter Against Delhi Capitals

The opening match of the IPL season at the brand new Mullanpur Stadium turned into a thriller, with the Punjab Kings emerging victorious by a narrow margin of 3 wickets against the Delhi Capitals. 

Choosing to bowl first after winning the toss, Delhi Capitals got off to a promising start. However, Punjab Kings batsmen, particularly Liam Livingstone with a vital 64-run knock, managed to put up a competitive total of 177 runs on the board.

In reply, the Delhi Capitals chase began brightly with openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh scoring freely. But the Punjab Kings bowling attack, led by the impressive Sam Curran who picked up 3 wickets, pulled things back in the middle overs.

A late fightback from Rishabh Pant, returning from a long injury layoff, kept Delhi Capitals in the hunt. However, they ultimately fell short by a heart-breaking 4 runs in the final over. Sam Curran's all-around performance, with both bat and ball, earned him the Player of the Match award.

While the celebrations have begun in the Punjab Kings camp, the focus now shifts to the second match of the evening where the Kolkata Knight Riders are looking to defend a mammoth total of 208 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
