NEW DELHI: In a daring high-seas operation, the Indian Navy has successfully rescued an Iranian fishing vessel, the Al-Kambar 786, which had been hijacked by pirates. The Navy's swift action led to the surrender of nine pirates, who are now being transported to India to face charges under the recently enacted Maritime Anti-Piracy Act, 2022.
The Navy's spokesperson announced on Saturday that the crew of the vessel, consisting of 23 Pakistani nationals, received comprehensive medical examinations following their ordeal. The Navy's specialist teams have also completed thorough sanitisation and seaworthiness checks of the fishing vessel, ensuring it is safe to return to its fishing activities.
This operation highlights the Indian Navy's commitment to maintaining security in international waters and its capability to respond effectively to piracy threats. The detained pirates will be subjected to the full extent of the law, demonstrating India's firm stance against piracy and maritime crime.
The successful rescue operation of the Al-Kambar 786 and its crew showcases the coordination and preparedness of the Indian Navy, which continues to be a vigilant guardian of the seas.
