Sangrampur, Maharashtra - March 3, 2024- A shocking incident of alleged police brutality has emerged in Sangrampur, Maharashtra, Victim Shaikh Mateen S/O Shaikh Mubin from Paturda. The victims claim to have been beaten and tortured by Police Beat Jamadar Nand Kishor Laxaman Tiwari Bach No.1636 of Tamgaon Police Station in Buldhana District.
The distressing incident came to light after a video went viral, showing the victims being subjected to violence. In response to public outcry, the Superintendent of Police in Buldhana, SP Buldhana Sunil Kadasne, promptly suspended Jamadar Nand Kishor Laxaman Tiwari Bach No.1636 pending further investigation.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the police officer under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 294 (Obscene acts and songs), 109 (Punishment of abetment if the act abetted is committed in consequence), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
The accused, Shaikh Mateen, spoke to REPORTLINE and asserted that the incident was fueled by religious discrimination. "This incident is based on my religious identity and beard. Police officer Tiwari saheb misbehaved and used derogatory language against me," claimed Mateen. He further demanded the permanent dismissal of Officer Tiwari and strict action against him.
The Sangrampur Police assured a thorough investigation into the matter, acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations. The incident has raised concerns about the violation of human and minority rights, prompting calls for accountability and transparency in dealing with such cases.
