PM Modi Inaugurates 'Sudarshan Setu', India's Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge

New Delhi, February 25, 2024 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the 'Sudarshan Setu,' India's longest cable-stayed bridge, connecting Okha and Beyt Dwarka island in Gujarat. The bridge, spanning 2.3 kilometers, was constructed at a cost of Rs 979 crore. PM Modi laid the foundation stone for this vital infrastructure project in October 2017, emphasizing its role as a link between old and new Dwarka.

The 'Sudarshan Setu' features a four-lane, 27.20-meter-wide roadway with 2.50-meter-wide footpaths on either side. Notably, the footpath is adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna, adding a unique cultural touch.

Formerly known as the 'Signature Bridge,' it has now been officially renamed as the 'Sudarshan Setu' or Sudarshan Bridge. Beyt Dwarka, an island near Okha port, lies approximately 30 kilometers from Dwarka town, home to the revered Dwarkadhish temple dedicated to Lord Krishna.

In addition to the bridge inauguration, PM Modi offered prayers at the Dwarkadhish temple. Later today, he will virtually inaugurate Gujarat's first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot. The Center has also funded the construction of four other AIIMS facilities in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, collectively amounting to Rs 6,300 crore.

PM Modi is expected to participate in a grand roadshow in the city this evening, marking a momentous day for Gujarat's infrastructure and healthcare sectors.
