Mehrauli, Delhi: Where a serene place of worship once stood, now lies a barren patch of land. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) demolished the centuries-old Masjid Akhunji, Madrasa Bahrul Uloom, and a graveyard in Delhi's Mehrauli, sparking outrage and questions about due process.

Pre-dawn Demolition Shocks Community:

Imam Zakir Hussain, caretaker of the mosque for 13 years, described the shocking demolition: "DDA authorities arrived at 5:30 am on January 31st. We were preparing for prayers when they came with bulldozers. I was scared, seeing such a crowd and heavy machinery suddenly."

Dispute over Land Ownership:

The DDA claims the structures were illegal encroachments on their land. However, Imam Hussain asserts they possess legal documents, including court rulings confirming their ownership. "We have tehsil records, won a case in Delhi High Court for demarcation in 2022, and pay government bills," he stated. "How can they claim it's their land and demolish it now?"

Community Questions Legality and Transparency:

The abrupt demolition, without prior notice, has raised concerns about the legality and transparency of the DDA's actions. The community questions the lack of due process and the timing of the demolition, considering their legal claims and long-standing presence.

Demolition Sparks Religious Tensions:

The incident has ignited religious tensions in the area. Many view it as an attack on their cultural heritage and religious freedom. They demand answers from the DDA and seek assurance that such arbitrary actions won't become the norm.

Uncertainty over Future:

The demolition has left the community in a state of shock and uncertainty. They struggle to understand the rationale behind the action and worry about the future of their place of worship and cemetery.

The incident highlights the need for clear communication, due process, and respect for religious and cultural heritage in development projects. As the investigation unfolds, the community awaits answers and a resolution that upholds justice and protects their rights.
