Madinah, Saudi Arabia - January 8, 2024: In a significant moment for India-Saudi Arabia relations, Union Minister for Minority Affairs Smriti Irani embarked on a historic visit to the holy city of Madinah on Monday. This visit, part of a two-day trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, underscored the deep cultural and spiritual connections between the two nations.
Paying Respects at Holy Sites:
Minister Irani, accompanied by Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs V. Muraleedharan, began their journey at the Prophet's Mosque, Al Masjid Al Nabwi. They also paid their respects at the Quba Mosque, the first mosque in Islam, and the Uhud Mountain, the final resting place of early Islamic martyrs.
Strengthening Partnerships for Haj 2024:
The visit further facilitated India and Saudi Arabia's collaboration on the annual Hajj pilgrimage. Both nations signed the Bilateral Haj Agreement 2024, finalizing a quota of 1,75,025 pilgrims from India for the upcoming Hajj. This quota allocates 1,40,020 seats through the Haj Committee of India and 35,005 seats through Haj Group Operators.
Appreciating Volunteer Efforts and Enhancing Pilgrim Experience:
Minister Irani expressed the Indian government's commitment to providing a comfortable and fulfilling Hajj experience for its Muslim citizens. She interacted with Indian volunteers who diligently serve pilgrims during Hajj and engaged in dialogue with Umrah pilgrims, seeking their suggestions for improvement.
