In Maharashtra's Nashik, a mob brutally thrashed two Muslim youths on suspicion of carrying beef, one of whom, Affan Abdul Majeed Ansari, has died. While another Nasir Ghulam Hussain Qureshi is undergoing treatment, a case has been registered against 10–15 unknowns. This is the second Mob lynching in the same district in two weeks.
In a tragic and distressing incident that took place in Maharashtra's Nashik district, a man was mercilessly attacked and killed by a mob on Saturday night. The police suspect that the assault was carried out by cow vigilantes due to suspicions of beef smuggling. The victim, identified as Afan Ansari, a 32-year-old resident of Mumbai's Kurla area, was traveling with his companion Nasir Sheikh in a car, purportedly transporting cattle meat when they were intercepted and violently assaulted by the enraged mob.
Following the brutal attack, both Ansari and Sheikh were swiftly rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Tragically, despite efforts to save his life, Ansari succumbed to his severe injuries while undergoing treatment, as confirmed by the authorities.
Sub-inspector Sunil Bhamre, who promptly responded to the distressing incident, shared his account, stating, "Upon reaching the scene, we discovered the damaged car. The injured men were inside the vehicle, and we immediately admitted them to a nearby hospital, where one of them tragically passed away."
In response to the incident, the police have apprehended ten individuals believed to be involved in the crime. Based on the complaint lodged by the surviving victim, the police have registered a case of murder and rioting, initiating a thorough investigation into the matter.
However, it is crucial to note that the verification of the alleged beef smuggling can only be confirmed once the laboratory report is obtained, as stated by the authorities. It is essential to allow the investigative process to unfold and gather concrete evidence before making definitive conclusions regarding the incident.
This distressing event comes in the wake of the Maharashtra government's recent establishment of a commission aimed at enforcing the ban on cow slaughter. The move was initiated following the validation of the law prohibiting the slaughter of cattle by the Bombay High Court. The court ruling granted competent authorities the right to inspect and search vehicles suspected of being involved in the export of cows, bulls, or bullocks, with the power to seize such vehicles. Furthermore, the court upheld the prohibition on the transportation of animal flesh for the purpose of slaughter.
As the investigation progresses, it is crucial for authorities to ensure a fair and thorough examination of the evidence and to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the pressing need to address and combat vigilantism and uphold the principles of justice and equality for all individuals, regardless of their background or beliefs.
